Little Cooks Co’s Commitment to the Environment
“100% Recyclable and Compostable Packaging” – what does it mean?
We get a lot of questions from customers about our packaging, particularly from people worried that we’re using plastic to individually wrap our ingredients. In a way it is a compliment. We’ve worked incredibly hard behind the scenes to find a plastic substitute that has most of the attributes of plastic in terms of strength and durability but without the harmful environmental impact.
We currently work with Natureflex which looks and feels like plastic but is 100% compostable. It is made from renewable raw material wood pulp and decomposes in just 60 days compared to more than 100 years for plastic!!
There are two ways you can dispose of Natureflex:
- Compost at home
- Place in your local food waste bin where it will be industrially composted
If you don’t have a local food waste collection now is the time to start putting pressure on local councils. By diverting organic waste from landfill we can help aid responsible waste management by reducing greenhouse emissions.
Natureflex is incredibly durable but some of our finer powders can occasionally spill through the seal which is why you will find these ingredients “double bagged!”
So, there you go! Our continual bid to improve the sustainability of our products! Our cardboard outer boxes, recipe cards and other “activities” are fully recyclable so pop them in with your recycling waste and the ingredients bags will compost away with any waste vegetables, tea bags, egg shells etc!
