Homemade beans that rival shop bought!

We had a hankering for jacket potato with cheese and beans but found we were out of beans, so we made our own! We were so delighted with the outcome that we wanted to share it with you all. I hope you enjoy them as much as we did!

Ingredients

  • 1 can haricot or cannellini beans
  • 300g passata
  • 50ml stock (optional)
  • 40g honey
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 tbsp tomato puree
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp balsamic vinegar
    .

Equipment

  • Chopping board and knife
  • Measuring scales
  • Saucepan and lid

Directions

1 Finely chop the garlic and gently fry in a saucepan
2 Add everything but the beans and simmer for 20 mins with the lid on
3 Add the beans and simmer for another 10 mins till the sauce is lovely and thick
4 Add salt and pepper to taste and add more honey if you prefer

Fun fact! Beans, glorious beans! Beans are full of FIBRE which is excellent for our tummies! Fibre is important for our digestive systems and helps us have healthy poos, and it also feeds the healthy (and friendly!) bacteria that live in our tummies which are called our ‘microbiome’
