Make your own oat milk!

I woke up to no milk a few days ago, so I made some! I do love a cuppa when I wake up, but not enough to get us dressed and head out in the rain to buy some, so I decided to make do with what I had. It is mind blowingly easy and makes deliciously creamy milk!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of oats (100g)
  • 4 cups of filtered water (800ml)
  • Dash of honey (optional)
  • Pinch of salt (optional)

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Clean tea towel
  • Large bowl
  • Measuring cups/scales
  • Glass jar for storage

Directions

1 Whizz the oats and water (+ honey and salt if using) in a blender on high speed for around 30-40 seconds
2 Strain through a clean tea towel into a big bowl (you can use a sieve of fine mesh strainer but they let quite a lot of pulp through)
3 Store in a glass jar in the fridge and shake before use

Fun fact! Oats are one of the best sources of beta glucans. These are a form of soluble dietary fiber that’s strongly linked to improving cholesterol levels and boosting heart health!
