Vegetable Packed Sauce

Delicious, versatile and hearty sauce, great for using up any leftover veg and boosting your little cook's nutrient levels!

Veggie Packed Sauce!

This really easy sauce is a great way to use up old veggies while getting a super healthy meal at the same time. The veggie-packed sauce can be had on its own with pasta or can replace the tomato sauce base for other dishes like bolognese or lasagne. Use whatever veg you have laying around and try to include as many different colour vegetables for maximum nutrition.


What we used:

  • Romanesco
  • Golden beets
  • Leeks
  • Red pepper
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Olive oil/butter
  • Passata/tin of tomatoes
  • Tomato puree
  • Salt and pepper to taste


  • Saucepan
  • Knife
  • Chopping board
  • Blender




1 Roughly chop everything (it all gets blitzed at the end!)
2 Gently sauté in some olive oil or butter
3 Add a jar of passata/tin of tomatoes and tomato puree
4 Simmer till the veg is soft, allow to cool a little and then blitz in a blender till smooth

Fun fact! Sweet potatoes are a good source of fibre when eaten with the skin on. Sweet potatoes offer other nutrients such as potassium, iron and vitamin B-6.
